Angloamerican is a global mining company founded in 1999, headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It produces diamonds, copper, nickel, iron ore, thermal and metallurgical coal; it is the largest producer of platinum, with about 40% of world production. Its operations are located in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and South America. Los Bronces is an open-pit copper and molybdenum mine that has been operating for more than 150 years, located in the high mountains of the Lo Barnechea district in Santiago, Chile. The Los Bronces Development Project emerged from the mine’s need to expand its facilities to process a greater amount of high-grade copper material available in the operation’s open pit, leading it to become the fifth largest in the world.
The assignment involved developing the staging for the inauguration of the plant, which took place outdoors at an altitude of 3500 meters in the mountain range, requiring planning an assembly suitable for the extreme weather conditions. To provide a comfortable space, we created a structure that allowed the event to take place indoors, designing two internal spaces according to the program. In the initial stage, the inauguration ceremony was held; we sought to explain the importance and characteristics of the project; for this we developed an audiovisual capsule that communicated the process of construction and operation of Los Bronces, the expected evolution, the geographical context, the relevance of human capital and technical features such as the scope of the infrastructure and the engineering applied in the project. For the second stage, we developed a relaxation and gathering space representative of the milestone being celebrated; we created an abstract visual language using illustrations of the plant, its location and the work to be carried out there, seeking to reflect the effort behind the expansion of Los Bronces to world-class production standards.
